Build Your Foundation at Messiah

What to Expect

Individuals seeking membership at Messiah have two options. If you are transferring from an LCMS church, please contact Jill McCoy at  for further details. If you are not transferring from an LCMS congregation or your membership has lapsed, we invite you to take the I’m New class.

I’m New is the process through which believers new to Messiah or the Christian faith get connected to their new church home. The first session is required for all seeking membership at Messiah. The other sessions are for those who will not be transferring from an LCMS church.

Through I’m New, you’ll get connected to Messiah and learn more about our values and mission. You’ll grow in your faith and explore what it means to be a Christ-follower.

For a total of six sessions on Sunday mornings, we’ll provide an opportunity for you to connect with others while we talk about:

Week One: Messiah's Foundation

Learn about Messiah’s mission, beliefs, and the Lutheran faith. You will learn about the ministry team and view a special message from our pastors. The session will wrap up with a tour of our campus. All those seeking membership are required to attend this class.

Week Two: Who is God?

God reveals Himself in the Trinity, and the Trinity is explained in the Christian Church’s historic creeds. We look at the Apostle’s Creed in more depth to better answer a question that is so foundational to our faith—“Who is God?”

Week Three: How Am I Saved?

This session will cover confession, forgiveness, and baptism to explain how salvation is found in Jesus.

Week Four: Why Should I Care?

Learn how the Ten Commandments from God can bring you into closer relationship with Him and others. With proper use, they are guidelines for a good life.

Week Five: How Should I Live?

To be sanctified means to be set apart. But not in a way that elevates you above others. If we live like Christ wants us to live, His love radiates and the Gospel spreads. “How Should I Live?” considers how prayer, service, giving, and other acts sanctify us. Sanctification is putting faith into action.

Week Six: Why The Church?

The church is full of sinners. All of us fall short of God’s standards on a regular basis. Why, then, did God create such an imperfect institution to deliver His perfect message? That’s the question we’ll answer in this final session. We’ll show why the Church is so important to building and maintaining your relationship with Jesus.

At the conclusion of I’m New, you will have the opportunity to begin building your foundation at Messiah by becoming a new member. You will then be recognized at an upcoming new member service.

Upcoming Session:

  • Fall session 2023: September 17, 24; October 1, 8, 15, 22. New Member Welcome is October 29, 2023 at 10:30 a.m.
